5-Fluorouracil (5-FU) is a chemotherapy drug that is used to treat various types of cancer, such as colorectal, breast, pancreatic and stomach cancer, inter alia.
5-FU is metabolised by the dihydropyrimidine dehydrogenase (DPD) enzyme, which is encoded by the DPYD gene. Variants of this gene have been described that affect the activity of the enzyme, increasing the risk of severe or fatal 5-FU toxicity in patients.
The Yourgene DPYD assay rapidly detects 6 clinically relevant variants, the study of which is recommended by the Clinical Pharmacogenetics Implementation Consortium (CPIC®). This kit makes it possible to detect DPD deficiency and more accurately predict toxicity and chemotherapy response, as well as adjust the dose.
The Yourgene DPYD assay is easy to set up and implement in the laboratory, involving minimal manual working time. The reagents come ready to use.
